This unusual story, where a truck ended up partially trapped under the ice, occurred near the town of Deline, in the Northwest Territories of Canada.
On the 2nd of March, the Government of the Northwest Territories increased the load limit on the road to Great Bear Ice Road, from 10 metric tons to 40 metric tons.
However, a few days later, disaster struck on the 5th of March, when a truck broke the surface of the ice, with its two front tires partially sinking below the surface, as can be seen in the picture above.
The incident caused no casualties, and the truck did not spill any hazardous materials on the road, but the road was temporarily closed to allow the truck to be removed after its contents had been drained.
The government of the Canadian province stated that no evidence supported the conclusion that the driver’s behaviour was responsible, instead remarking that the hot weather that Canada was experiencing this winter could have altered the surface and weakened the road.
11 trucks had previously crossed the road without any difficulties but it seems that the 12th truck was simply one too many!
